Rosewell Cowboy Village

The cowboy village of Roswell was created for the purposes of filming the new trilogy about the Apache Indian chief Winnetou and his friend Old Shatterhand. Filming took place in 2015 and 2016, mostly in Gorski Kotar. The three sequels to the movie story "Winnetou" about the legendary Indian chief from the Apache tribe, who was created by the German writer Karl May in his novels, are based on his short stories "Winnetou I", "Treasure in Silver Lake" and "Winnetou III". Roswell offers everything that the conquerors of the Wild West must have - a large wooden railway structure that shows how Roswell is populated in the first place. There is a chapel, benches and a cemetery on the hill. The town has a blacksmith shop, horse trough and stables, bank, saloon, brewery, Chinese laundry, post office and telegraph office, real estate agency, store, water tower, small sawmill, public bathhouse, interesting house where Fat Betty rules and Sweet Dolly, and of course, there's the sheriff's office. Today, Roswell hosts a variety of events, including Winetoou Weekend, Tears of St. Lawrence, movie nights, a cowboy kettle cooking contest, the Bundevijada, and more.

On the Paths of the Frankopan

The cultural and tourist route "The Paths of the Frankopans" includes seventeen castles, two of which are located in Gorski Kotar - Čabar and Brod na Kupi. In Čabar, the center explains how the Frankopans and Zrinskis successfully managed the family estate, while the center in Brod na Kupi shows the relationship of the Frankopans and Zrinskis to nature. The Frankopans participated in numerous battles, and their resourcefulness, education, diplomacy, and above all, the desire to preserve their own estates, have sustained this family for centuries. They have left behind numerous castles, fortified towns and castles, spread throughout the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, which evoke the spirit of the past, intrigue, conflict, culture, literacy and religiosity. Due to their exceptional value and with the aim of restoring, preserving, protecting and sustainably using tangible and intangible heritage, the project "The Paths of the Frankopans" was launched.
